AstroMall
Mobile + browser game that turns an e-commerce store into an interactive shopping experience, letting players discover products through gameplay instead of a traditional storefront flow.
Overview
AstroMall blends a lightweight game loop with real product data so the “world” reflects what’s actually for sale - products, variants, availability, and pricing show up as in-game objects you can browse and interact with. The goal is to make shopping feel like exploration: players wander, engage with items in context, and move into a purchase flow that still feels native to the game experience rather than a jarring jump to a standard product page. On the back end, AstroMall connects game events to commerce actions so the game can stay dynamic as the catalog changes. That means the store can add products, update variants, or run promos without requiring constant game rebuilds, and analytics can tie gameplay interactions to conversion outcomes.
Challenges
- Translating a real-world catalog (products, variants, images, pricing) into game-friendly objects without making the UX feel like “shopping in disguise.”
- Keeping inventory and pricing accurate while still feeling instantaneous in-game (no stale data, no “bait-and-switch” moments).
- Designing a purchase flow that doesn’t break immersion (cart/checkout transitions, variant selection, error states).
- Balancing performance across mobile + browser with fast loading, smooth interactions, and minimal bloat.
Outcomes
- Proved the concept that “commerce as gameplay” can feel fun and usable, not gimmicky.
- Built a dynamic pipeline where product/catalog updates can be reflected in the game with minimal manual effort.
- Created a differentiated shopping experience that stands out from typical D2C sites and ads.
- Laid a foundation for measurable funnel analytics: discovery → engagement → intent → conversion.
